NORFLOXACIN

Main indication

- Urinary tract infections

- Diarrhea

Dose

- 400mgr x 2

- Usual adult prescribing limits = 1.2 grams per day for diarrhea & 800 mg per day for all other indications.

- The presence of food in the stomach may slightly decrease or delay absorption of norfloxacin. Therefore, norfloxacin preferably should be taken with a full glass (240 mL) of water on an empty stomach (either 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals or milk ingestion

- Patients with both hepatic and renal function impairment may require a reduction in the dosage of norfloxacin

- Mg, Alum., Ca, Fe ; Decreased absorption of norflox

Possible side/adverse effect

- moderate to severe phototoxic reactions also have occurred in patients exposed to direct sunlight during or following treatment with enoxacin, levofloxacin, norfloxacin, or ofloxacin; treatment with these fluoroquinolones should be discontinued if phototoxic reactions occur

- May cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or drowsiness.

Drug interactions

- norglox can decrease concentration of phenytoin

- Mg, Alum., Ca, Fe ; Decreased absorption of norflox

 

Other informations

- Store below 40 °C, preferably between 15 and 30 °C, in a tight container
