ALBENDAZOLE

Main indication,

- microsporidiosis... In practice: diarrhea not responding to norflox ans metro

Dose

400mg x 2 during 3weeks

Take with meals. Food containing fat increase absorption.

No care of kidney failure

Drug interactions

- Cimetidine increase the plasma levels of albendazole.

- Corticosteroids increase the plasma levels of albendazole.

Possible side/adverse effect

hepatotoxic

reversible pancythopenia

Central nervous system (CNS) effects (dizziness; headache)

gastrointestinal disturbances (abdominal pain; diarrhea; nausea; vomiting)

Alopecia (thinning of hair or moderate hair loss) reversible

Contraindications

Hepatic function impairment, such as in hepatic cirrhosis

Without lab control, do not associate theophyllin

Other informations

Store below 40 °C (104 °F), preferably between 15 and 30 °C (59 and 86 °F), unless otherwise specified by manufacturer. Protect from freezing and direct sunlight.
